U. S embassy teams up with the Family department in training for the creation of a Gender Based Violence Victims Shelter.

Workshop held by the Defense Institute of Medical Operations 18-22 November 2024

 

In a collaborative effort to address Gender-based violence (GBV) issues the U.S. Embassy and the Defense Institute of Medical Operations, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Family to hosted a training from the 18-22 November.

This important held at the Kempinski Resort, the workshop brought together various stakeholders, including experts from the U.S. Embassy Office of Security Cooperation, the Defense Institute of Medical Operations.

The goal of the workshop was to assist Seychelles in strengthening its Domestic Violence Act of 2020, enhancing victim support services, and improving community safety. Discussions centered around several key topics, such as the establishment of a GBV shelter to provide safe spaces for survivors and building stronger partnerships between organizations to offer better support for victims.

Notably, Ministers Marie-Céline Zialor and Rose-Marie Hoareau attended the launch, accentuating the government’s commitment to tackling GBV. The workshop also featured speeches from Mike Morel, the Principal Secretary for the family department, and U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Adham Loutfi, emphasizing a shared commitment to combat gender-based violence.

This collaboration between the U.S. Embassy and the government of Seychelles highlights the importance of international partnerships and local efforts in addressing and reducing gender-based violence, fostering a safer environment for all members of society.
